Chapter 7 : IT Strategy & Planning

Strategy is a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim . IT strategy is a comprehensive plan that information technology management professionals use to guide their organizations.

The success of an executive information system (EIS) depends upon many factors, including providing support for the strategic management process (SMP). The SMP is comprised of four phases: environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation, and strategic control.

EIS has the potential to provide information that support the Strategic Management Process such as improve the efficiency and effectiveness of executives who use it. Successful systems usually support the business objectives. A well design EIS can support strategic control by compare actual performance against budget, goals, standards and benchmarks. Some systems include text-based applications that track progress on the accomplishment of specific objectives. It also help the organization to focus on the things that need to be done well. A good system is actually capable to support the overall strategic management process.

Most EIS software uses a web browser for the user interface, which provides easy access to data on a company's intranet and from the internet. Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) allow users to perform multidimensional analysis.

There many strategy they formulate to be an excellent management center for world-class research, development, consultancy and publication. Firstly their management set up Research Management Centre (RMC) and appoint the committee members formulate all the strategy to achieve the vision, mission and objective of UiTM especially in the aspect of research.

RMC responsible to formulate everything related with the research matters from the procedure and regulation for the researchers to write the research until they publish their research on the high impact journal. In order to publish on the high impact journal like Emerald Journal, UiTM subscribed to the one of the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings known as Scopus.
